Installation of the first surface velocity monitoring station of the Piura River

Two years ago, flooding and debris flow in the Piura Basin devastated many livelihoods along the river bank. As an academic and scientific institution, we believe that reconstruction should be linked to the development of science and technology, taking into account its social context. In this sense, the ePIURA Project, financed by the World Bank and the Concytec Peru, will contribute to the integral study of coastal rivers, with a particular case in the Piura River.

During our first technical visit, the installation of the first surface velocity monitoring station of the Piura river on the Eguiguren Bridge was carried out. This monitoring system employed Large-Scale Particle Image Velocimetry (LSPIV) techniques.

Through ePIURA Project, UTEC will study the basin, for 3 years, with a view to working on capacity building and identifying research opportunities with the main stakeholders in the region.
